IT’S A MAD WORLD

The lyrics BY Tears for Fears sparked this essay

I noticed a sense of constant inadequacy and dread in me. Everything I am trying falls short. People fighting, divided, nations threatening, wars creeping ahead, and deceitful black intentions fill the news. The world runs in circles and seeks what they will never find, never realize, for they do not see the promise of Christ or the love of God. The prophecies of Ezekiel 38, Daniel 12, and Matthew 24 are entirely in play—It’s a Mad World.

“At that time, Michael shall stand up,

The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;

And there shall be a time of trouble,

Such as never was since there was a nation,

Even to that time.

And at that time, your people shall be delivered,

Everyone who is found written in the book.

And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,

Some to everlasting life,

Some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Those who are wise shall shine

Like the brightness of the firmament,

And those who turn many to righteousness

Like the stars forever and ever.”

Daniel 12:1-3

I am an old man and have lived through prosperous times. I fear not for myself but for the children who are to live in this mad world, we have left behind. It would be easy to hide away here amid the plains, grow a garden, raise some chickens, hunt for meat, and stay by a warm fire, letting the world go mad all around me. Hide in my cave as David did when King Saul was after his life. Wait it out until the Lord calls me home. But I have this relentless holy restlessness to get into the raging spiritual battle. Get to the front battle line and find my place to win the enemy’s hearts to the only hope, truth, and life—Jesus.

Instead of hiding, I started a bold and crazy movement into the world-wide-web where the battle between the mind and soul awaits. I place these words into the abyss of deceit, hoping they may find a lonely heart and help heal it. I have started producing and publishing videos on YouTube, Rumble, and Locals, hoping the light will show into the darkness. I am confident that I am where I am to be, for I am under constant attack that I am a failure and a fool for thinking I matter in this spiritual battle. I find myself in the continuous search for worldly success instead of what God wants. I count numbers daily who have seen the videos or read my words. I say to myself, “If my efforts help just one soul find contentment in the Lord, then the fight is worth it—some days, I know I tell myself a lie as I look at the views and likes—it is about the numbers, this is the fight. It is a mad world.

Fear makes the familiar people I see timid, small, helpless, without hope and the joy we all pray for. Friendly faces around me run in circles living dreams in which they are dying. These are the thoughts within me as I listened as Curt Smith sang the ‘Tears for Fears’ song, ‘It’s a Mad World.’ The song is melancholy but with a gently sweet and comfortable rhyme. The song’s verse is entirely counter to the rhyme. It’s a mad world, indeed.

All around me are familiar faces.

Worn-out places, worn-out faces

Bright and early for their daily races

Going nowhere, going nowhere

And their tears fill up their glasses

No expression, no expression

Hide my head. I want to drown my sorrow

No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny

I find it kind of sad

The dreams in which I’m dying

Are the best I’ve ever had

I find it hard to tell you

‘Cause I find it hard to take

When people run in circles

It’s a very, very

Mad world

Mad world

Mad world

Mad world

We miss You

The one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. These are the words Christ spoke to the apostles and captured in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 24. Therefore I place these words into the darkness for consumption by one who walks within it in hopes they may turn some to righteousness.

Matthew 24:6-8

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Please take comfort in the light, be drawn to it as the mosquito at night, as a lost soul to the way, the truth, and the light.
