Let there be Light, A photographic worship workshop series, Part 2 – 8am to 4pm

December 4th & 5th, 2021, Metigoshe Ministries

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

What’s it all  about?

We are called to worship and honor God in everything we do. God is the creator and paints the heavens and the earth with light. God spoke light into existence and through God’s word He speaks of the goodness of light—God is Light.

Photography is the art of light, it relies on light completely. I believe the art of photography is worship—just as music, painting and dance. Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and places of worship everywhere use art and light in design—the woodwork, the stained glass, the sculptures, and the architecture—everything is designed to honor God and display the light.

This workshop and all that follow are about using photography to honor and worship God and all of His creation. We will discuss the tools of photography: the cameras, lighting, the software, and accessories—but as I have always said, “The brush does not make the painter.” This introductory class will help you to understand the basics of how modern cameras capture light, composition basics, framing, without getting too technical.  We will take and share photos. In the end, your photography will be greatly improved—and we will have plenty of fun as we learn. We will attempt to cover all the material with consideration for my desire that every question is answered. We can go later, or cover less material—it is about God’s pace.

How hard can it be to learn photography and writing? It started as a simple dream that I could tell great stories about life in words and pictures. I could become a writer despite having failed every class in the art, my spelling and vocabulary are atrocious, no knowledge of grammar, and I am a two-finger typist. People tell me I take great pictures, so how hard can it be to become a master photographer and videographer? The only thing I had going in my favor was an insatiable hunger, a passion for telling stories about people, places, and my testimony.
